New Name for PISA

Hello PhD Students and welcome to another wonderful academic year. Last year we asked for new names for PISA. Unfortunately, with hurricanes, planning a conference and dealing with the fiasco that is FAU's Student Government, this project did not take flight. However, with a new year comes new energy. So........ we're asking for your ideas for new names for PISA (the club formerly known as the Public Intellectuals Student Association). When putting your brain to work think of a name that will reflect the academic and social purposes of the club, will not form an objectionable acronym, and will reflect the various branches of the comparison's Studies Ph.D. program. Just to review, we have the Public Intellectuals program, the Program in Literatures, Literacies & Linguistics, and the Program in Fine and Performing Arts. GOOD LUCK!!!

Just giving brief thought to the name...Here are my first tries. This is a tricky task, indeed:

1. Comparative Academics Student Assoc. (CASA)

2. Interdisciplinary Doctoral Experience Assoc. (IDEA)

I like the ease of the name PISA but agree that it sounds a bit exclusionary for the other 2 tracks. What about something as recognizable as PISA with all 3 tracks interwoven (for example... PILAF:Public Intellectuals, LangLitLing And FinePerformingArts, or FLAP: FinePerfArts, LangLitLing, And PublicIntellectuals)? Or we can just go with a name that doesn't represent the tract names per se (like BABEL or OASIS). It will take some stretching of the imagination, but I'm sure that it's feasible!
Just some thoughts....

The word "consortium" (an association of interconnected enterprises) describes us, I think.

Doctoral Student Consortium (DSC)

Comparative Studies Doctoral Student Consortium (CSSC)

Consortium of Comparative Studies Students (CCSS)

Interdisciplinary Student Consortium (ISC)

Associated Students of Comparative Studies (ASCS)

I was looking for some commonality among the 3 tracks and I thought that that most undefinable of words "culture" would be appropriately inclusive. So how about:
Society/Consortium/Association (whatever) for the Comparative Study of Culture?

Since all grad students are intellectuals in any case, here are a few.

1) Comparative Studies Intellectuals' Association (CSIA)

2) Society for Comparative Studies Scholars (SCSS)

3) Comparative Studies Student's Society (CSSS)

I have another suggestion:

Collage

An assemblage of diverse elements. It's a word that just might describe us.
